What a great day! The sun shone and over 500 made it through the gates to this Cultural themed event. This was the biggest event we have ever put on with live bands, dance workshops, photography exhibitions, sumo suits and lots lots more. The Procession to the fun day this year included the unveiling of a new Sculpture in the Village Centre. Created with the help of local people the sculpture was unveiled by Rev Charles McMillan who was involved in the Art in Ardler Steering Group. The procession then headed for the Schools where the event was officailly opened by PC Craig Tosh before Dundee based Electronica Band, Altres, kicked of the Main Stage. There was some excellent food on offer thanks to the Wooden Spoon Cafe at the International Women's centre. We were also entertained by some great dancing from the Dundee Tangerines and Sharks cheerleaders, chuckles club and the brilliant members of the Michelle Harvey Dance school. Following a brief dance workshop we also had 10 local children do 3 Bollywood style dances after learning the moves from the Macara Youth Group. As usual the Fun Day would not be possible without the help of the many people and organisations that supported the event. This year we were helped by Dundee City Council Communities and Leisure, Speedy Hire, DSL Scaffolding, Hilltown FM, DAFT project, Sanctuary Scotland HA, Bydand Leisure, St Andrews First Aid, Dundee Police Pipe Band, the Stills Gallery, and the band the View for loads of free goodies which we raffled A big thank you also to Ardler and St Fergus Primary Schools for the use of their school and especially Tam the caretaker for making the event run smoothly.... A special thanks to the Al Maktoum Institute for helping to fund the event along with the Ardler Village Trust. Also special thanks to our main funder 'Fairer Scotland'. |
