ARDLER VILLAGE TRUST

Ardler in Bloom
HOME Ardler in Bloom is an annual horticultural project set up in 2004. The urban ranger working in partnership with AVT undertook to run a gardening competition to encourage residents to grow their own plants and take pride in their environment. It aims to promote gardening for FUN along with other benefits involving health, food, wildlife and the environment. Residents are encouraged to grow plants in places visible to the public, for example in front windows and front gardens so that everyone could appreciate and benefit from your hard work!

It is hoped that the project will engage the whole community to take an interest in their local environment.  This year we are also planning to launch a page for younger residents, which will give some gardening advice and tips to those under 18 years old who want to take part. Details of this will be posted at a later date.

2005 was once more successful in attracting many members of the community to take part.  This year we will again be organising events  to give away seeds and compost, details of these giveaways will be posted on the website at a later date.  The gardens are looking good despite the wet weather and it is great to see so many people keen to be involved. Prizes for this years competition have yet to be finalised, but we are sure we will receive generous donations and that they will be as good as in previous years.

ARDLER IN BLOOM 2006 LAUNCH  The competition has been so successful that Ardler Village won the Scotland in Bloom 2005, 2006 and 2007 award under the Regeneration Category. This award recognises the efforts put in by residents in carrying out litter picks, plant giveaways, bulb planting in public spaces and in developing their new gardens.  It also recognises the support of Dundee City Council and Sanctuary Scotland in developing  and maintaining a sustainable Ardler.  To retain our title this year we hope to carry out more planting events and involve more local people of all ages.  We need your help to make Ardler bloom in 2008
